7 Things You Should Never Do On An Empty Stomach

Eating too much may not be a good idea for anyone, but an empty stomach is just as dangerous a situation. The activity we do both before and after a meal can impact our health in a huge way which is why we should always maintain a balance.
While there are things never to do on a full stomach, an empty stomach is way more dangerous for certain thing. Here are 7 things you should never do when you are on an empty stomach. The implications can be anything from nausea, to erosion of your stomach lining and bloating or flatulence.
1.Travel
When you go out into the world with an empty stomach, your body is more prone to illness. We all know that high-traffic places like airports and public buses are riddled with germs.
Give your immune system a boost to protect yourself from colds, the flu, and even worse with a healthy,balanced diet, especially before you travel!
2.Go grocery shopping
You should never go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. This will cause you to buy a lot of sweet/high crab items that you're most likely craving for at that moment.Instead, eat a snack before shopping to avoid impulse buys and excess sampling.
3.Never chew gum
Do you often make the mistake of over chewing the gum? And do you have it on an empty stomach? If yes, this can lead to inflammation in the stomach. Never chew them for more than 10-15 minutes.
4. Drink coffee or tea
You may be guilty of this one. Once your alarm clock rings and you groggily drag yourself out of bed, it is so easy to brew yourself a nice cup of Espresso coffee or steep a tea bag in a mug.
Well, if you’re downing these hot beverages first thing in the morning, it’s time to kick the habit. Drinking them on an empty stomach increases acid levels and may be the cause of your heartburn and indigestion throughout the day. Have some toast before you indulge in your morning cuppa!
5.Take medication
There are some forms of medications you shouldn’t take on an empty stomach, like painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. First of all, it’ll reduce their effectiveness, but it can also lead to stomach issues and even to gastric bleeding! So, make sure you always eat something before taking these pills, even if it’s just an apple or a banana.
6.Go to the gym
Nope, you do not lose more weight by exercising on an empty stomach. In fact, you lose muscle mass when you work out on an empty stomach when you do heavy workouts.
Our bodies need proper nutrition with the right amount of fat and protein, so an attempt to exercise without eating will increase your chances of passing out.
7.Sleep
Going to sleep at night on an empty stomach is the worst thing you can do for your health. Hunger and low blood glucose levels will prevent you from having a good sleep and cause insomnia. It may also cause poor sleep and early awakening.
Lack of sleep again will lead to an increase in the hunger hormones which is why some people tend to eat extra the next day if they skip dinner. Gorging before sleeping is also a bad idea. You could opt for a dairy product like milk before going to bed as this contains magnesium and calcium both of which helps us to sleep.
